You mean the Bible really encouraged giving wine to needy and sad people?

wine in the bible
TheChurchLady asked:

Proverbs 31:6-7 ,Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

Paul

I guess if you interpret it literally, they encourage you to give out wine, yes. But if you just think of it contextually, you’re being encouraged to “cheer up” the needy. That doesn’t mean you have to give them wine. The wine term is what they did to cheer people up during the time the Bible was written, which is a lot different from now.

Yes, contrary to popular belief, alcohol isnt a sin.. however drunkeness is. Though there are a lot of preachers who like to say it was “grape juice” and others are ready to believe it. But, in greek and hebrew, wine meant “fermented drink” otherwise it would not have been called wine in the first place.

Unless you take the bible literally, the Bible is is not true, but it is “truth”. In other words what it says is true, but not necessarily the details. Did God create the Earth in 7 days? Does it matter? or is it more important that everything is made by God and everything made by him is good? That is what it is actually saying.

There was “fermented drink” and “unfermented drink” not welchs grape juice but something other than alcohol. It says in the bible no drunkerd will enter the kingdom of heaven. God Bless!!

Pour it on! I do enjoy it on a daily basis. I was not aware of it’s use as you pointed out. Thanks for sharing that piece of biblical knowledge on wine.
