We have seen powerful and accurate prophecies which great strengthen people of God. The Lord is determined in helping the church with the increasing anointing of prophetic gifts. But we also see the misunderstanding and the misuse of the gifts often brings chaos and problems for the body of Christ. As the Proverb says, Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox. Therefore, the way to keep the church in the way of the Lord and prosper is not to avoid prophetic ministry, but instead, we try to do it in unity and in agreement with the principles taught in the Bible.
We are required to submit to each other in love. There is different hierarchy in the Kingdom of God. God designed it that way. Jesus, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Jesus is God. But He willingly submits to the Father. Who am I to say I am too good to submit to the leaders who God put upon us?
Prophetic words have a very special nature because it makes us feel that we are hearing the ‘very word of God’. This can intimidate a lot of people and create all kinds of strange dynamics. In fact, only the canonized scriptures are the revealed ‘very word of God’ while all other prophetic words are merely human words reporting a God inspired thought which should never be treated as authoritative as the scriptures.
All prophecies must be tested against biblical truths. A church leader must not be intimidated by his prophetic team. He needs to provide guidance and rules for the team to follow so that they can work together for the good of the congregation. On the other hand, the leader must not have any insecure feeling or even envy towards the prophetic ministers due to the respect and authority they receive for their ministry.
The situation happened in a church in Kansas City illustrates the point. The pastor of the church was Mike Bickle. At that time, quite an amount of prophetic words are allowed to be shared in the Sunday Morning Services. A few anointed prophetic people were speaking frequently who had accurate prophetic track records. The pastor was not very seasoned in prophetic ministry yet. He did not exercise his authority and take up his responsibility to govern the prophetic individuals. He did not do the necessary leadership work because he thought if people are able to hear God clear enough to know what to say they would also be clear about when to speak the words. But this is not necessarily true.
In many occasions, people are given gifts, power and authority before they are mature enough to use them well in the will of God. The Lord gave us different gifts so that we can help each other out. The leaders are gifted with leadership anointing and that they should take up their responsibility to facilitate and administer the prophetic vessels. There will be many difficult dynamic happening because we are all weak and broken people. That is our cross to bear but the Lord is always with us.
