If you have personal encounter with someone who operates just a little bit of Holy Spirit anointing, you will experience the impact and wonder why God would gives such level of power and authority to a weak and broken man. Some would be tempted to think of the minister higher than they ought to. This is wrong and may cause a lot of trouble especially when the minister fails to behavior like Jesus (which happens all the time).
Questions and doubts arise due to the persons who operate obviously under powerful prophetic anointing. Accurate prophecies, healing and other powerful demonstrations may make people think that these ministers are perfect. Many believe that people with heavy prophetic anointing must be uniquely godly and with all their doctrine biblical and correct. This concept is not true, nor is it biblical. For example, Samson in the book of Judges was powerfully anointed by the Holy Spirit, at the same time he has many problems in his life and moral.
People think that a person who is used by God in demonstrations of power must be totally holy and with totally correct doctrine, therefore, once they see a flaw in one’s doctrine or character, they conclude that one’s prophetic ministries must not be from God. This concept is also false and non-biblical. In the letter to the Corinthians, Paul describe that the Corinthians had serious mistakes in their doctrines and that they had bad characters. In fact, the Corinthians is the most carnal church throughout the epistle. But they are also famous for their manifestations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit anointing is not given to signify a person’s spiritual maturity or consecration. The Gifts are given and distributed according to God’s eternal plan. They are free gifts of God, given by grace. No one could earn it with good work so that no one can boost about themselves.
The fact that there is nothing we can do to earn spiritual gifts does not mean that we could take an antinomian approach towards our life. But by knowing that the man who operates under strong anointing does not make the man godlier than others could help us focus on the Lord who gave the power with grace. And also this implies that no words should automatically gain more authority just because the man who gave them had a high accuracy prophecy record. We must test every prophecy with the scripture.
The Lord can also choose to anoint you with spiritual gift. If that happens, praise Jesus’ good name and stay humble, because He alone is worthy of all praise. We are sinners and none of us is perfect. But the Lord can still use us mightily if we obey.
The church is the body of Christ. The Lord gives us different spiritual gifts so that we function together for the good of the whole church and His eternal plan. Let us be faithful stewards of all things that the Lord gives us and may glory be unto Him alone.
