Being drunk is a sin. Drinking in a moderate and responsable way is not. :)

†ServantofGod† May 9, 2007 at 8:32 pm

The Bible only says that getting drunk is a sin.

maram May 11, 2007 at 5:48 am

In Moselem religion drinking is forbiden as you can get drunk.and loose controll.

justanormalatheist May 13, 2007 at 7:48 am

Didn’t Noah, supposedly so great, that he survived the flood get drunk once? Genesis 9:20-23. So perhaps Noah was more sinful then we thought?

Drinking is not a sin getting drunk is……..

Drinking is not a sin. It never was.
Drinkin too much is a sin because it seperates you from the will of God,

Rod C May 18, 2007 at 6:09 am

Drunk is a sin drinking is not.In the Old Testament it even says after you finished your tithe, spend what you have on wine or strong drink.
Being drunk is always looked down on.I’ll have a Sierra Pale Ale from time to time!

That would be because drinking is not a sin. Drinking to excess, however, is gluttony…and is, therefore, DEADLY..muahahahahaha. (there are 6 more like it). You do understand tat the Bible is a book? When you read Pride and Prejudice did you wonder why women no longer wear petticoats? No. Because you recognize that you were reading a book set in the 19th century. So why are you unable to contextualize the Bible you are reading? These people in the Middle East were Roman subjects. They drank wine like every other Roman did (and still does…go to Catholic Church, you’ll get a little buzz with your Eucharist…You calling Pope Ratface a sinner? I think he would beg to differ)

drinking is not a sin. Everything in Moderation. That does not give you and excuse to go get drunk. You open yourself up to darkness when you drink to the point your head starts to feel high. Jesus was accused of being a drunkard, because he hung out where they enjoyed drink. But when I was in Cana on tour of the Holy Land, I found out that the wine Jesus made was only one 16th wine and the rest was water. Just like the other but sweeter! So drink is not a sin if he made it, right!
It over doing it that leads to sin.

It isn’t what goes into a person that defiles a person it is what comes out of a persons mouth and action that defile that person. Whatever goes into a person passes into there mouth traveling threw and out the body. What comes out of the mouth comes from the heart either good from the good stored in the person or evil from the evil stored in the persons heart.

Drinking is no sin…Jesus first miracle was changing water into wine…Drunkenness is the sin.

Julia B June 3, 2007 at 10:07 am

Drinking to excess is a sin, drugging to excess is a sin, anything to excess is a sin.

i_ate_your_corpse_again June 3, 2007 at 4:23 pm

if i remember correctly doing anything that will alter your state of mind is a sin. one alocholic drink will effect the state of your mind, thus making it a sin.

to ye that claim that getting drunk is a sin but drinking is not.
one 12oz glass of beer will put most people over the legal limits on driveing a car. so that would classify as drunk/altered state of mind.

Dear Shagger-
The Bible says that it is a sin to get drunk, not a sin to drink.
Here is a suggestion for you. Since you have so many questions about the Bible, it is good to read and study it for yourself.
I certainly would not take the word of those answering on Yahoo!answers. Some, even non-Christians can quote scripture and give you their interpretation of what a verse means.
The very best thing that a person who is seeking truth can do is do their homework. Read the Bible it has the answers you are looking for. And know that all of the Bible prophecy that has been fulfilled to date has been 100% accurate.

Some people here said getting drunk was . . . what does that mean . . . where there alcohol breath testers since biblical times?

Michael Kelly June 7, 2007 at 10:20 am

Yes, people drank wine in the bible and changing water into wine was Jesus first miracle. Over indulgence in wine or any rich foods is a no no in the bible. Oh yes, Cardinal Richelieu, no dummy by the standards of any time once said, if God did not want man to enjoy wine, why did he make it so great?

As I mentioned on other posts wine was not grape juice as some people claim. Proverbs says take not too much of wine or you will feel like your on a mast of a ship in a stormy sea and wake up next morning feeling you were bit by a poison snake. The Romans had a saying, ” Veritas in vino est ” which means, there is truth in wine. ie people say what they really feel when a bit tipsy. I therefore ask, does this sound like non alcoholic grape juice to you?

Regards,

Michael Kelly

Drinking in and of itself is not a sin. Getting drunk is. Also, some of the things associated with drinking would also be considered a sin. Now drinking can be a sin for some people and not others, and let me explain. If a person’s conscience tells them that it is wrong to drink, well it would be a sin for them to go against their conscience, therefore drinking for them would be a sin. Now, if you don’t think that drinking is a sin, but your drinking would cause someone else to sin in some way shape or from, and you know it, then your drinking becomes a sin. For those who are wondering, same applies for smoking too.

moreth133 June 11, 2007 at 9:15 am

Wait a minute, though. This belief makes no sense.

Some people think they’re drinking moderately but get drunk anyway, especially first-timers. Furthermore, what about sleep? If getting drunk is a sin because it interferes with your connection with God, doesn’t sleep or any OTHER altered state of consciousness (in this case, plain old unconsciousness) apply as well? Oh, but they’ll say sleep is necessary, so it can’t be wrong. Of course!

tim b June 13, 2007 at 1:40 pm

how come some people do not have any common sense at all?

Dalmatian lady June 14, 2007 at 7:20 pm

It is the overindulging that makes it a sin.

♥Servant_of_God♥ June 15, 2007 at 6:11 am

People did drink wine in the bible, and it is not a sin to drink.

magwawali June 15, 2007 at 11:45 am

Wow! I was ready to come on and tell you the difference between having a drink and getting drunk, but the others have done a good job of it…to those I give a thumbs up and to this question a star, as it is a very important question to explain.

God Bless you all.

Hardrock June 18, 2007 at 6:46 pm

Exactly. So the bible isn’t perfect and it cannot stand as a person’s holy book that should be followed.

edward_church2000 June 21, 2007 at 7:42 am
