wine in the bible
Glorify God asked:

Someone said that the Bible says do not put strong drink, wine before your brother. Does anyone know a chapter and verse for such a reference. I found lots of things mentioned about not drinking to excess and so forth. So far I can not find the reference about not serving it, Can anyone tell me Chapter and Verse, please?

I cannot guarantee the validity of this website, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

Well, it isn’t a law to NOT drink. though in God’s eyes it is. he says to keep your body healthy because you are the temple of God. so if you drink a lot then you get unhealthy, right?

Basically, the Bible says all things in moderation. Except for, say, killing.

1 Timothy 5:23
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

Then there is the whole water into wine bit… not to mention Jesus handing out wine and saying “Drink from this for it is my blood. The blood of the new and ever lasting covenant” and all that. What the Bible does forbid is excessive drinking for the sack of excessive drinking.

In the days in which the Bible was written it was dangerous to drink water – it was usually contaminated. Alcohol and drinks that called for boiling the water (like soup) were safe.
