If drinking alcohol is truly forbidden, why did Jesus turn water into wine?

by Admin on May 30, 2009

cave man asked:

There is a misconception by some members of the Christian faith that the intake of alcohol of any kind is forbidden, which is totally untrue. Case in point, there was an occasion in the bible when Jesus turned water into wine and let’s not forget that wine was also consumed at the “Last Supper” and represented the blood of Christ. As with everything else the key term we should all remember is “moderation”. Even common everything such as eating (the sin of gluttony) and sleeping (the sin of sloth) can be sins when done extensively. As Christians we should not be to quick to judge and label someone a sinner just because we see them drinking a glass of wine or a can of beer. However, a person should always use good judgement and common sense and Never consume alcoholic beverages with the intent of getting drunk or high, for this is the point where drinking becomes sinful in nature and contradicts scripture. Peace and God bless.

It was non-alcoholic wine, supposedly.

I know this, because I used to be a Christian.

Non- alcoholic wine? No. Wine is wine. Non-alcoholic wine is just called juice.

Your argument is correct, based on the premise that the Jesus stories are true. There is reason to doubt them.

nowhere in the bible is wine forbidden. catholics (like myself) have VERY small amounts every sunday at mass. the bible says nothing at all about wine being bad. its just fundamentalists who take every single word of the bible literally (when things like the creation story and revelations are obviously not meant to be taken literally) do problems and prejudice arise.

Good point. Over drinking is a sin and overeating too. It is a reason to this . Over eating can make you fat and over drinking can ruin your brain, organs and personality.

The wine made by Christ is the wine of love; it is not intoxicated and injurious like the alcohol made by man.
The wine of love causes the believers to happily sacrify their lives like the apostles for the noble purpose taught by Christ.
