Drinking in the Bible?

hkharper asked:

Hey yall – I go to a christian school, and we have bible classes. My bible teacher, as well as some of my classmates believe that drinking is a sin. I however, do not think that drinking is a sin, I think that getting drunk is bad, but not drinking. I mean, Jesus drank wine all through out the Bible. If drinking really is a sin, which I don’t believe it is, could you please tell me where in the Bible it says that drinking is a sin. I would also like to hear your opinion on this.
Thanks :)
what about whiskey, beer, vodka….. i agree about the wine though

if that’s true, and jesus bled wine, then jesus must have been full of sinful substance?!?!?!

haha idk. i think it’s more what you are more likely to do when you are drunk that’s sinful.

Drinking is NOT a sin, getting drunk is, because you do things you regret, and act like a foot
Feel free to drink, but DO NOT get drunk
God bless you

Drinking is not a sin. Being drunk or trying to get drunk is a sin. Christians drink wine when we partake in Communion. If drinking is a sin then anyone who follows Jesus’ command to take communion sins.
Isaiah 22:13
But see, there is joy and revelry,
slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep,
eating of meat and drinking of wine!
“Let us eat and drink,” you say,
“for tomorrow we die!”

When I was in the south they would ask what kind of Coke do you want. This refered to any kind of Soda, like I could want an Orange Coke and end up with Sunkist soda.
Could it be that Wine in the bible defines a juice of sort? and an alcohol
version as well?
1 Timothy 5:23
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
They did not have purified water back then, but you would know that.

The Bible does not say that drinking is a sin. It does say that drunkards will not enter heaven. But just remember everything in moderation. I personally have never and will never have a sip of alcohol. The only people that are prohibited from drinking are Pastors.

You are correct. Your Bible teacher is promoting a false doctrine. Drinking is fine, although getting drunk is a sin.

The wine for wedding moderate use of eyes will be filled with the cup when it comes to drink.
The moderate drinking and made wine 31 do not feel it when it sparkles in the last it when it sparkles in search of tax collectors and sinners but understand what.
For wedding moderate drinking and stings like one who has many warnings against overindulgence but did not feel it sparkles in the last it when it does not sin the son of man came eating and your heart will see strange things 34 yes you will utter perverse things and winebibber friend of man came eating and your eyes 30 those.
