Dreams in Genesis

If you read through Bible, you will probably notice dream is always used by God for communication with his people. No one has seen God but they had a real direct touch with God in their dreams. God reveals to his people things in past, present and in the future. Let us understand more about spiritual dreams from the very beginning of the world and the Bible, and that is Genesis.

Gen 15:12 mentioned that Abram fell asleep during the sunset time. In his dream, the Lord told Abram that his seed (offspring) should be stronger in gentile’s land. His seed should serve the gentile for four hundred years. We all knew that what God told Abram had actually happened that his seed (Israel people) had been the slaves of Egypt for over four hundred years.

Mentioned in Gen 20:3 was the dream related to Abraham also but not to Abraham. Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah, Abraham’s wife without actually that she was his wife. But God came to Abimelech in a dream in the night, and said to him: “Truly you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.” Abimelech in the next morning gave Abraham back his wife, and let Abraham said a prayer for him, so his life was safe.

In Gen 28:10, Jacob went toward Haran, he took the stones as pillow and lied down and sleep. He dreamed of a ladder of which the top reached heaven. God said to Jacob that his seed should be as the dust of the earth and spread abroad to the west, to the east, to the north and to the south. Lord said he was with Jacob. When Jacob awaked he said surely the lord was in this place.

In Gen 31:10 Jacob had married Laban’s daughter Rachel. The countenance of Laban was not toward him as before. The Lord said to Jacob to return to the land of his fathers. Jacob later saw in a dream ringstreaked, speckled and grisled cattle. An angle of God spoke to him that he had seen what Laban had done to Jacob. Later Jacob and his wives and sons left Laban as told by the angle of God.

In Gen 31:24, when Laban was told that Jacob was fled he took his brethren with him to pursue after Jacob. In the night, God told Laban and said to him that Laban should not speak to Jacob either good or bad.

God has communicated to his people in the past, present and certainly the future through dreams. This is witnessed by so many Christians. Believe in God’s dream and experience it yourself.
