The bible teaches us to contend to walk in the fullness of the prophetic anointing. We need the anointing of the Holy Spirit to walking in Holiness. We also need His anointing to walking prophetic ministries like healing the sick, casting out demons and prophesying in order to demonstrate the power of the gospel we preach. True apostolic faith is what we need and we need to have biblical ideas, biblical lifestyles and biblical experience. Like fire requiring oxygen, fuel and temperature to burn, we cannot afford to give up any one of the three elements! Let’s look at how we could contend for the fullness of the prophetic anointing in a biblical way.
First, we must have a vision of the fullness. There is no reason why what we read in the book of Acts is not for us. In fact, the Lord promised greater work than these for all believers. We must reach for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The Lord did not create us to stay in spiritual dullness. Following Jesus and ministering Him has higher dimensions than going to church regularly and singing hymns. We must reach for the fullness of God because we desire deeper intimacy, cooperation and partnership with Him.
Secondly, we must be grateful for everything God has given to us. While we crave for the fullness, we are also thankful for anything that the Lord gives us and shows us no matter how small it is in our eyes. We do not despise the day of small beginnings. We continue to be grateful and faithful in whatever the Lord commissions us to do.
Third, we must live a life of prayer and fasting. Prayer is the key to release the power of the Lord. The Lord gives us the opportunity to cooperate with Him in prayer. Fasting is not a way to earn anything but a way to tenderize ourselves to receive the Holy Spirit. When we are more receptive to Him, we are able to pray more in line with the will of the Lord. And this makes His will be done on earth. It is His will to pour the fullness of the prophetic anointing on His sons and daughters. We partner with Him to fulfill His promise in prayer and fasting.
Fourth, live holy. We are capable of living a holy life because the Holy Spirit is within us. The sinful old me is crucified with the Lord on the cross. The person who is living is not me but the Lord. In fact, this new creation in Jesus is incapable of sinning. The only thing we are able to do is to work out the will of God because we have become slaves of righteousness. Reject all the lies that are not in line with God’s word. But be aware that you do not try to earn the anointing by living holy. We see the Lord anoints people who are carnal, too. He does it in His sovereignty and as a gift. We live holy because our Father is Holy.
Finally, we are willing to bear what comes with the anointing – suffering. All the servants of the Lord suffer for His name. Jesus said a student cannot be higher than his master. The world would treat us in the way it treated our Lord. But this is all worth it because we are able to cooperate and partner with Him in a deeper divine dimension.
