christians and wine
Hello asked:

Why can underage Christians have communion wine in church without getting in trouble (or the church getting into trouble), even thought it IS wine?

I always thought they gave the kiddies grape juice?

because christians want their children to be tanked off of christs blood as early as possible

You can legally drink as long as you are with your parents. Plus, that wine is soo watered down, a tiny sip won’t do much.

Well because there’s a law in the US that says everyone’s free to practice their religion and drinking a small amount of wine is part of the Christian religion.

It is a little stupid but at the same time, it’s really not hurting anyone.

A lot of communion wine is just grape juice.

There is a law that makes it legal so take a small dose of wine for religious purposes

usually its grape juice.
id imagine for the same reason that you can drink wine in your house if your parents buy it. i mean, your parents ARE right there.

Its not really wine. Its just grape juice to represent the wine that was at jesus’ easter. And it represents his blood.

Obviously, wine has a low proof (alcohol content) and they are only ever allowed a small sip, which will have no effect and never raise their blood alcohol content (BAC), no matter their size or weight.

for such a minor thing it’s ignored as religious freedom. If they were harming children it would be another matter, but giving them a sip of wine is fine.

This is a DAMN good question. I have never thought about it.

I would say there are multiple answers:

The religious view would be that it is not actually wine, but the blood of Christ.

The “common sense” view would be that the amount of wine consumed is not nearly enough to do any harm to the children. In fact, a glass of red wine is actually healthy for you.

And lastly, there IS SUPPOSED to be separation between church and state.

Thank you for your question.

Because it’s part of a religious practice which is protected in the United States. It’s the same reason that American Indians can legally use Peyote which is a cactus that is used as a hallucinogenic drug and the same reason Rastafarians are allowed to use marijuana in a religious setting.

It’s a small cup, and alcohol consumption for religious practices like communion is legal. We drink that small cup of wine in rememberance of Jesus and the shedding of His blood. We eat that small piece of bread in rememberance of His body that was crucified.

That is a great question. I think it’s a don’t ask, don’t tell situation. Some people may use the ‘separation of church and state’ ruling… but in that case, you can have pedofilistic ******.

The Bible never says you have to drink wine at communion any way. Jesus used the wine to represent His blood. We can use Welch’s grape juice to do the same. There is no biblical evidence that wine literally transforms into wine when the Catholics drink it.

Although, I am not Catholic or Christian and have never been baptized so I’ve never had the communion wine, I’ve been told it is more like bitter juice than actual wine. Yes, there is alcohol in it, but not as much as a normal bottle of wine that you would buy at BevMo.

Also, the fact that you’re not chugging the bottle and you’re only having a sip, you’re likely only consuming as much alcohol as you would if you accidently swallowed your mouthwash. In fact, its probably a lot less.

Religious rites and symbolic rituals are protected under the constitution as long as they are not causing harm to anyone. Seeing as how the priest is not intending for the blood of Christ to get these young kids wasted (at least not during mass, but that’s a whole other dirty joke) and is not “contributing to the delinquency of a minor”, kids can drink the Jesus juice in the church without the church getting in trouble for it. Thank you, Constitution loopholes!

in the lds church this is not true. everyone drinks water.

but it is a religious freedom and for your information beer was used as a drink instead of water when the pilgrims crossed the ocean.

A standard dose of cough medicine may contain more alcohol than the sip of wine received in Communion.

Besides, many parents allow their children to have an occasional sip of wine anyway. No one cares about such inconsequential quantities.
