Sure. Just not to excess.
Anything that harms your body is a sin. It’s up to you to decide how much smoking and drinking will hurt your body.
its a personal choice as long as you dont get drunk
Depends. The only comdenation I have found is do not be a drunkard. I drink occ. Which means I may drink a beer once in a while. As far as using wine to cook with, the alcohol burns off. I do smoke.
I thought Jesus turned water into wine for people to enjoy at a wedding. Why would your diety do that if drinking alcohol was sinful?
Wine does a body good. Have some.
depends on your specific religion – some do
I have a xtian friend who is an amazing cook, and she made a tequila marinade last week. YUM.
Wine is an excellent flavor enhancer!
All things in moderation.
Jesus drank wine at the Passover. There is a difference between having a glass of wine with a fine meal, and getting drunk. Drunkeness is a sin.
Some fundies think that Jesus drank grape juice only. That is plain dumb. Any Jew will tell you that four glasses of wine is part of the Passover meal, and Jesus celebrated the Passover every year of His adult life.
Christians drink and smoke like everybody else
I’m allergic to cigs but I do drink on occasion.
I am an atheist who doesn’t drink. All the people I know who drink too much are Christians.
God gave Noah the knowledge on how to make wine. I’m almost certain we’re supposed to drink it, responsibly. Also, alcohol remains in foods, only about 70% evaporates. Smoking is a vice, and if you use a cigarette as an escape rather than confessing to go that you need help, that’s idolatry. If it’s just a smoke with Friends every once in a while, it’s fine.
rememeber the wedding feast of cana and Jesus and his mother were invited and Mary told Jesus they had no more wine, and Jesus made more wine and he surely had some. Its getting drunk that he condems
yes the bible says its ok to drink wine. it just talks against getting drunk.
1 Timothy 5:23
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
Most Christians think drinking is ok. It’s really just a few protestant sects that prohibit it.
i dont have a problem with alcohol myself .. but i dont drink daily .. if im with Christian friends and i know they have an issue with it i wont do it in front of them ..
being drunk is not in the bible.
if you wanna drink, go ahead. in the age of jesus water wasn’t as clean as wine was so many people drank wine and beer.
I do not smoke, but I do drink alcohol occasionally. (Like 3x a year). I do not think alcohol is the problem, but rather drinking in excess which the Bible does warn about and getting to the point where you rely on smoking, drinking, drugs etc as a crutch rather than going to God.
Wine in your recipe will be fine!
Ha ha! Look at the Irish Catholics, Italian Catholics, and all Christians….they do drink wine, etc., and use it in cooking! Jesus drank wine.
There are some who insist the wine mentioned in Scripture was non-alcoholic, but this is wishful thinking on their part. There is absolutely no inkling of proof this was the case, and a very good case can be made that it was indeed alcoholic.
The “sin” is in the abuse of alcohol, just as it is with many things.
As far as smoking, that would be a matter of personal choice, however, personally I cannot see how it can do any good, and I can see how it can do plenty of harm.
.
Nurdee is in error. Drunkenness is addressed in Scripture.
Christian can drink wine. Paul suggested that Timothy take a little wine for his health.
Alcohol, consumed in small quantities, is neither harmful or addictive. In fact, some doctors advocate drinking small amounts of red wine for its health benefits, especially for the heart. Consumption of small quantities of alcohol is a matter of Christian freedom. Drunkenness and addiction are sin. However, due to the Biblical concerns regarding alcohol and its effects, due to the easy temptation to over-consumption of alcohol, and due to the possibility of causing offense and/or stumbling of others – it is usually best for a Christian to abstain entirely from drinking alcohol.

Scripture never condemns drinking in moderation.
Scripture ALWAYS condemns drunkenness.
You can cook with wine. Don’t get crazy. Drinking is forbidden because you could get drunk and then your judgement becomes impaired. Also, you are the temple of the Holy Spirit and to drink is not healthy for your body. Everyone says that one drink won’t get you drunk but that is different for everyone. And one drink could lead to another and starts impairing your judgement immediatly.
Which ones?
And second Why are you a baby Christian?
wine is great and God is great
yes it wont hurt, you see being so religious wil have you all bound up. Its not about Religion but a personal relationship with the Lord. Receive that.
I’m a Southern Baptist, and I drink sometimes, and I also smoke. You can do these things, you just can’t let them control you. God Bless.
The only Chrisitians who I know strictly prohibit drinking are Mormons. Although there is a debate as to whether they are really Christian.
As the Pope said, all things in moderation.
Some Christians drink.
It’s ok to drink wine, or beer, or any other alcohol for that matter. The primary thing is to not let it be a “stumbling block” for yourself or others. For example, we like to drink wine, but my sister-in-law is a recovering alcoholic, so I wouldn’t drink it around her. As long as its in moderation it’s fine.
I’m a Christian that likes beer, wine and an occasional Jack-n-coke. I quit smoking 6mos ago for health reasons.
When you cook with wine, all the alcohol evaporates in a matter of minutes, but it is best to ask your friends whether it is okay or not.
I’ve had a glass of wine periodically.
If you’re of age – not pregnant – in good health – a glass of wine is actually beneficial to the digestive system. Please note – I said, “A Glass of wine”.
May God Bless you, all who respond in this forum, and keep you in His Mercy. In the Name of Jesus Christ, My Lord, I pray.

Some don’t, many do. Personally I think that drinking is something that can be dangerous for some people and for them, God would instruct them not to drink anything…for others, only excessive drinking would be harmful. Thus, I would suggest that the decision to drink (or not) has to be a personal decision reached through talking to God and asking people you trust for input about how they think it affects YOU.
For my brother (and some other alcoholic friends), even one drink alters his personality…it causes him to focus on the pleasure of the high and disregard signs that he has had too much. For myself, a glass or wine or two doesn’t drive me to have another or do something potentially dangerous like drive my car…no one I know has ever suggested that drinking causes me to lose touch with what God wants me do (unless I drink too much, which I never do anymore) nor have I ever felt convicted by God about having one or two drinks…that’s good enough for me.
Short answer: If they want to, yes. In small amounts, alcohol can be beneficial to the body.
Smoking is all around harmful, so true Christians don’t do that.
stop looking 4 rules @regulations . just follow Jesus .
It depends on your attituded! Does alcohol make you sin?
Jesus did, and all the Christians I know – including me – certainly do; but there are certain denominations that won’t even use it for Holy Communion. At my church grape juice is also available for children and recovering alcoholics.
Drink wine? Sure, in moderation. Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine at a marriage feast. At 1 Timothy 5 : 23, Paul said to Timothy to take a little wine for his sickness. Smoking, however, is different. Jesus said to love your neighbour as yourself. Smoking is showing neither love. At 1 Corinthians 7 : 1, it tells us to cleanse ourselves of ever defilement of flesh. Smoking is truly a defilement.
My dear Dizzy : I’m sorry baby , but Christians are human also . So they do everything anyone else dose , but there are some Christians whom other people call holy rollers and (NO) they don’t drink , smoke , curse , have *** with their partners other then to have children , see bad movies ,read bad books or magazines and they go to church at the least 3-4 times a week . dose this help you in any way ?
The alcohol evaporates when it is cooked..However, if others Christians are to eat it with you, you should tell them…some have qualms about it.
Personally I don’t. I don’t think having an ocassional glass of wine is a sin on a big celebration day,,,like the birth of a child or a wedding or anniversary..but only on special occasions and only one glass…I don’t drink, but I never did, so this is just my own humble opinion. Some beleive it is better to stay away from alcohol completely. You have to make up your own mind on this one. I believe Jesus drank real wine at the Last Supper and not grape juice as some say….
As for smoking, not a sin, but a shame….we are to keep our bodies healthy because it is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Also, it has the appearance of evil, so it is best to stay away from all those things. They can hurt your testimony to other Christians.
Moderately, It is not that you can’t drink, it’s the LOOSING CONTROL of being drunk.
First of all, welcome to the family…
Hun, there is no rule set in stone about whether or not a Christian ought to drink alcohol.
My advice would be, if you decide to drink, please, use your common sense, and please, moderation, always.
Some churches have wine at their Holy Communion services…but most just use grape juice. I’m thinking it doesn’t matter.
And, as you said, when you cook with it, the alcohol evaporates.
Now, do I get an invite to dinner??
OH…smoking is something quite different. When you smoke, you not only cause harm to your own body, which, for Christians, is a no-no…but we now know that you cause even MORE harm to people who inhale your exhaust…which, for Christians, is a NO-NO…if you intend to follow Jesus, you’ll need to put the ciggies down.
You’ll be glad you did…and so will your non-smoking friends, and any children you might be around.
And you will make God smile.
you can drink wine!! Jesus did. . . the only verse I think that talks about wine is in Ephesians somewhere, “don’t get drunk with wine because that will ruin your life”. But thats pretty good advice anyway don’t ya think?
the bible says that whosoever is deceived by wine or strong drink is not wise…proverbs 20
You are right about the evaporation process. The Bible tells us that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. It is a personal matter between you and God. Beyond offense to another brother or sister in Christ, I do on occasion drink a low percentage of alcohol like say 5% or 7.5% of wine for medicinal reasons. I do not want to drink Nyquil since it is (or was the last time I saw it) 35% alcohol. It used to be 50%. It is always good to pray about something before you do it. If you feel right about it and you’re doing it for the right reason, don’t worry about the tea-totalers. They are better-than-thou’s. Better to drink it if you need it than not drink it and be sick because you are afraid of what others will say about you. By the way, it was literal wine that Jesus turned the water into at the marriage of Cana. No wonder the pharisees and sadducees didn’t like him, He broke all their traditional, religious rules. What does that tell you about religion? Listen to God not men.
Smoking? I think everyone knows that it hurts the body. It’s written on every pkg. Have you ever heard of emphysema? If not, look it up. How about cancer?
Some churches serve real wine for communion.
