Is it true that biblical wine is mostly unfermented and without alcohol in biblical times?
I am more curious about whether wine was fermented and alcoholic in Biblical times

its not a sin to drinnk its a sin to get drunk. drinking can however lead to sin. certainly nothing good will come out of it.. and there’s a lot of potential bad. in biblical times water was often not good to drink and the only other option was wine. wether or not it was fermented it was not a sin to drink it and it is not a sin to drink it now.
Most Christians don’t practice their true beliefs.
Common Muslim practices, such as abstaining from alcohol, are found all throughout the Bible.
Christians just practice what is convenient at the time.
That’s actually a matter of opinion. Some Biblical wines were more than likely fermented, but not all.
And the Bible doesn’t tell believers to not drink, it says that drunkenness is a sin.

No it is not true………..the only thing you should be concerned about here is being prone to drunkenness……you know, I am sure….. do not become an alcoholic…
Edit: Yes it was alcohol in biblical times…..some stronger some weaker anyone who try’s to tell you different is wrong. There are passage referring to men being drunk in the bible. How could that be without alcohol. Also one must follow the law of the state you live in concerning alcholol consumption
Jesus turned WATER into WINE lol I am sure they do.
its a sin to drink alcohol but we can drink wine because that’s what god made from water
the Bible says not to be drunk. I personally don’t think that having a glass of wine w/ your dinner is wrong.
unfermented wine is grape juice or vinegar
jesus made water turn to wine
No, that is not true.Drinking alcohol per se is not forbidden in the Bible, but drunkenness is regarded as a sin.
Personally, I don’t use alcohol at all, but that is more because I am diabetic and it isn’t good for me than because of any religious proscription.
Drunkenness if forbidden in scripture, not drinking. Wine is wine. If God meant “unfermented” He would have had it written that way. NO! It was fermented wine. (oinos= wine, not grape juice)
wow. that is truly a question for a theologian.
i am not that, but will give you my take on the issue, and you may do with it what you like.
I am a Christian, and used to be quite a partier. i wasn’t an alcoholic, but drinking was a big part of my life, mostly resulting in stupid, sinful actions in mylife. When i first became a Chrsitian, i decided not to drink b/c I felt that it was the best thing for me, and my growth as a new person of faith. that has been 8 years, and i now enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer now and then. it is not a stronghold in my life anymore, and therefore, i don’t have a problem with it myself.
however, i really resepct others’ feelings regarding drinking, and since the Bible says that we shouldn’t do things that might cause others to stumble, (as Paul eating certain Jewish foods in front of guests who didn’t) I choose not to drink in front of those I know take an issue with it.
it’s not such a big deal to me that i need to fight over it.\blessings
Yes of course but most christians should not get drunk.
although this is true many christians do get drunk any way.
Heres the thing, how can you argue about something that is right or wrong in Relgion, any answer is merely an opinion. The people that enforce these biblical laws are simply acting on thier interpretation of the religion itself as well. In short, theres never a right or wrong answer, its what you yourself believe based on how you interpret the religion. Thats why you often hear the phrase “dont talk religion or politics with friends” because their truly are no answers……think about it
Not true.
Wine in Bible times was also intoxicating. Hence, the Bible talks about intoxicating wine or liquor. The Bible does not speak against drinking alcoholic beverages. It speaks against getting drunk.
“Woe to those who are getting up early in the morning that they may seek just intoxicating liquor, who are lingering till late in the evening darkness so that wine itself inflames them…” (Isaiah 5:11)
Intoxicating drinks in ancient Biblical lands included wine made from grapes (De 32:14) and alcoholic beverages prepared from other fruits such as the pomegranate or from grains. (Isa 1:22) Moderate use of wine and other strong drinks is acceptable to Jehovah, who provides “wine that makes the heart of mortal man rejoice.” (Ps 104:14, 15)
Well, I wouldn’t say it was mostly unfermented and without alcohol, as it was fermented and had plenty of alcohol. However, they were heavily watered down. Water itself was not considered very safe to drink, at the time, so the alcohol in the wine killed a lot of the bacteria and sort of purified the water, if you will.
It’s perfectly okay to drink. The key is moderation. It’s sinful to get drunk, and, unfortunately, alcohol leads to a lessening of inhibitions and a slowing of reflexes, which can lead to such sins as involuntary manslaughter, abuse of those around you, and extramarital ***. However, if you know your limits and stick to them, and only have a drink once in a while, you should be okay.
Of course the wine was fermented. The word wine means it was fermented. There’s a story in the Old Testament about Noah getting drunk on wine, so it’s not like people had no idea what wine was, and it’s not like wine wasn’t alcoholic.
The Christians who argue otherwise are just grasping at straws.
Jesus drank wine. Jesus turned water into wine. It’s perfectly okay for Christians to have a glass of wine now and then. Drunkenness is not okay, but a little wine is fine.
no a christian may not partake of alcoholic beverages.
1. if for any reason at all his influence. think of those who look to you and could follow your example. they see you drink so they do but they become alcholics.
2. oinos is a generic term for wine it can be fermented or non fermented depending on the context.
3. in john 2 jesus did not turn water in to fermented wine. jesus lived and died under the old law, so he followed it and jesus did no sin. (I pet 2:22) jesus would have been breaking the law had he made fermented wine and gave it to all those people –Hab 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
jesus was not even to give them a single drink much less make them drunk. he would not had made something that he was not even suppose to look at –pro 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his color in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
4. Does the use of the word “much” mean that a perso may drink a moderate amount of wine? when Solomon said, “Do not be overly wicked” (Ecclesiastes 7:17 ”“overmuch wicked”—ASV]), did he mean to imply that a person can, with God’s approval, be moderately wicked? When Peter noted that pagans do not understand why Christians do not engage in the “same excess of riot” (1 Peter 4:4), did he mean moderate rioting was appropriate? In other words, language can forthrightly condemn an excessive indulgence or great amount of an action without implying that the action is permissible in a lesser amount or to a lesser degree. One cannot assume that what is unlawful in excess is lawful in smaller amounts.
