Get Your Power from the Source

As spring time has arrived I’ve had the pleasure of watching some people outside enjoying the nice weather by flying kites. I always love the time of year when winter turns to spring, and seeing kites in the sky reminds me of a story that I used with children during my days as a teacher and a missionary. The story was about a kite that desired to fly through the air like a jet. He tried very hard to be like a jet, but he simply didn’t have the right source of power.

Sometimes I feel like that little kite, and I know many others can relate to that as well. There are days when I look at the list of things I need to do and I simply don’t feel that I can get it all done. I’m sure you can relate to those days of an overwhelming feeling of not having the power that is needed.

Perhaps there’s a mental challenge in front of you that you don’t feel adequate to handle. Or do you lack emotional strength to overcome that giant hurdle in front of you? It doesn’t matter if the challenge you face is physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual, God promises that He has the power to strengthen you. Just look at what the Bible says:

Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)-”He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Romans 8:26 (NIV)-”In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

In II Corinthians we are told that God’s grace is sufficient for all of our needs. Paul tells us that he boasts in his weakness because God will supply him with His power during times of his own weakness. Paul even tells us that he delights in hardships because when he is weak God will make him strong.

Isn’t that incredible? What ever challenges you are facing, you can pray to God and ask for His power to help you through it. All of that power is available to you and to me. That’s amazing! Just recognize your own human limitations and look to Him for help.

Almighty God, I’ve learned to be thankful for my weakness because it forces me to stop depending on myself and to rest in Your power. Thank You for giving me Your strength.
