Christianity And Christians

Speaking about Christians and not discussing the doctrines of Christianity becomes an obscure task. The reason for this obscurity is that without Christianity to support them, Christians would not even exist. The very term, Christian, comes from the religion of Christianity and means Christ-like. For those wondering how far back the existence of Christians can be dated, it is worth noting here that there are mentions of Christians in the New Testament Acts 11:26. While originally, the term Christian was used only to describe the followers of Christianity; these days, anything simply associated with Christianity is called as Christian – a Christian restaurant, a Christian shop, a Christian label and so on. Almost 75 percent population in North America consider themselves to be Christians. This clearly signifies that religion Christianity makes for one of the most widely spread and recognized religions in the world.

Within the header of Christianity, several branches exist which can be differentiated on the basis of their beliefs. We can successfully divide these into five major segments – active Christians, professing Christians, private Christians, Roman Catholic (etc) and cultural Christians. Amongst these, only two segments are regular in visiting churches. Mentioned below is the population differentiation percentages based on the belief and following of the above branches by people of North America.

Only nineteen p.c population in Northern America can be named as Active Christians. These folks are regular in attending church, read bible, trust in Jesus Christ and accept leadership positions in church when asked. Twenty p.c population is of the assumption that relationship with The Lord God and Jesus are much more important than church. This segment of folk is named as Professing Christians. Another sixteen p.c of the population refer to themselves as as Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran or Episcopalian. These trust in downright power of church and church authorities and are very firm in visiting the church frequently. The following 24 % of the people is regarded as personal Christians. These people don’t typically read a bible, though they do accept the power of bible and God. They have a belief in doing good deeds, though not because of fear of church. This one is the biggest segment apropos followers. Another twenty-one % of the people believes themselves to be Christians though they don’t accept the faith or the religion itself. According to these people, Jesus isn’t quite necessary to reach deliverance.

In North America, due to huge acclaim of the faith, there are many thousands of religion groups that serve Christianity. Some of the most noted such religion groups happen to be Roman Catholic church, Eastern Orthodox churches, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Unification Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Christian Science and other conservative, mainline, liberal and progressive religion groups. Notwithstanding each one of them professing the same faith, its ironic how these individual groups consider only their group members as being true Christians or following the faith in true sense.

Aside from the religion groups and cults explained above, there’s an enormous population of US citizens who’ve not associated themselves with any specific cult and yet refer to themselves as to be Christians. With such vastness and variety, Christianity survives and makes for one of the most dominant faiths on earth.
